Few brands stir the soul of driving enthusiasts quite like Peugeot. From lightweight hot hatches to high-revving saloons, the French marque’s golden era of the 1980s and 1990s gave us some of the most characterful cars ever to hit the road.

At this year’s NEC Classic Motor Show, the Peugeot Sport Club UK stand celebrates this passion with four very different takes on performance — each one showcasing the unique DNA that’s made Peugeot such a beloved name among petrolheads. 

Darren Halliwell Mi16

Darren Halliwell – 405 Mi16

Often overlooked, the Peugeot 405 Mi16, proved that family saloons could be exciting in the late 80s /  early 90s.

Remembered for delivering power and poise with a soundtrack that could make any motorway drive feel special it’s an iconic Peugeot that will never be forgotten. 

Darren Halliwell’s example represents the pinnacle of Peugeot engineering from that era, blending luxury, comfort, and performance.

Darren’s Mi16 is possibly the only Phase 1 on the road, with 13 others SORN in the UK

Martin Chatfield Rallye

Martin Chatfield – 106 Rallye

Small, simple, and utterly joyous to drive — the 106 Rallye S2 is the definition of lightweight fun. With its rev-happy 1.6-litre engine, skinny tyres, and no-nonsense setup, this little pocket rocket captures the essence of pure driving.

Martin Chatfield’s car is a pristine example of what Peugeot did best: building small cars that punch far above their weight. The Rallye doesn’t rely on power or gadgets, it’s about connection, balance, and the kind of agility that puts a grin on your face every time you take a corner.

There are believed to be less than 100 examples currently on the road in the UK.

Liam Kelly S16

Liam Kelly – 306 S16

overshadowed by its GTI predecessors, the Peugeot 306 S16 is a hidden gem that deserves more attention. Beneath its understated body lies a sophisticated chassis and a sweet-revving 2.0-litre 16-valve engine, a combination that made it one of the best-handling front-wheel-drive cars of its era.

Liam Kelly’s S16 is a fantastic showcase of how Peugeot evolved through the 90s, smoother, more refined, yet still deeply engaging.

There are believed to be less than 11 examples currently on the road in the UK.

Justin Edwards Dimma

Justin Edwards – 205 GTI Dimma

205 GTI needs no introduction, but when you add a Dimma widebody kit, you get something truly special. Justin Edwards’ 205 GTI Dimma is a showstopper, blending that unmistakable 80s rally style with performance and presence in equal measure.

With its flared arches, deep bumpers, and stance that looks ready for a Group B stage, the Dimma kit elevates the 205 into something even more dramatic. Yet beneath the bold looks, it retains everything that made the GTI legendary, sharp steering, a playful chassis, and an eager engine that defined a generation of hot hatches.

There were around 250 Dimma’s produced but we do not have a figure of how many are on the road, although we suspect it’s less than 20, but the PSC do have a register of the ones that have been in the club over the past 40 years.
